The Journey Begins
Going back in time….let’s see? It was about November of 2016, I had spent 9 days in the hospital after getting a very bad cold. It was so bad that I had to go home with oxygen. They informed me that I had chronic kidney disease, but I didn’t know how bad it was. I had an appointment set up with Dr. Vaghela, a nephrologist. For whatever reason, I missed my first appointment with him and had to reschedule. At that appointment he stressed the importance of not missing any appointments with him. He then informed me that I had Stage 5 Chronic Kidney Disease, also known as End-Stage Renal Disease. He then told me that we would have to work on building my home. I just looked at him funny. He was referring to having a fistula put in my left arm (where they join a vein in an artery). He called it my home because it needs to be taken care of for dialysis. I started to cry, my life would forever change.
After having the surgery, I became very depressed. I felt like my life was over. I felt like I had no use in this world. I was in a terrible place. I decided to turn to the one thing I absolutely loved in this world…..CROCHETING! I started doing project after project and started to fill a tote..
It felt so rewarding…..I felt like I was contributing something creative in this world. Then I came up with the idea of designing a webpage and starting my own blog. I know that there are other people out there like me living the life of a dialysis patient.
I will tell more of my journey tomorrow……until then, stay happy and stay well!
